lately, lily

when you were little, did you pretend you were traveling all over the world, having adventures, seeing all kinds of amazing things, and meeting many different kinds of wonderful new friends?

i sure did.

well it seems lucky lily gets to live this dream...
and we get to live vicariously through her.
(and her seriously talented folks!)

i have a serious design crush going on...

their website is insanely creative, colorful, and fun.
it chronicles lily's adventures around the globe with her best friend zeborah & her "sunny yellow suitcase" in tow.

(i can't wait 'til the girls are around to show them!)

best of all, they've created adorable cotton tees featuring art inspired by their travels that you can purchase on the site!
they're made right here in sunny soCal.
now your little dreamer can rock a super-soft, adorable tee that doesn't have the stereotypical princess or other
character-y types on it... ewww.
(i'm not a fan. just sayin'.)

there are more on the site.
i can't choose a favorite.

lily, welcome to our world...
or should we welcome ourselves to yours?!
looking forward to sharing more adventures with you soon!

the wisdom of a man

do you remember our friend mike
(via zap2it)

(again, not us.)

well, he went and had himself a baby girl a few months ago, and has since been a very busy daddy.
(isn't she the most precious?!)

congratulations, mike!
he and i have had way too much fun recapping award show fashion last year; hopefully we can make that happen again this year.
but before we get to the snarky, sequin-y goodness
that is award show season, i give you

the wisdom of a man.

Nostalgia is a very powerful concept.
Just recently I was reminded of this when I saw the wonderful Woody Allen film, "Midnight in Paris" which (spoiler alert) focuses on Owen Wilson's character Gil, an aspiring novelist with writer's block,  looking for inspiration.
He travels to Paris with his fiance Inez (Rachel McAdams) where things might be "more inspired".
He begins taking nightly midnight walks which lead him, via a unique mystical phenomenon, to be transported back to the 1920s where he meets and has cocktails with his literary idols
F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.
Inez shares none of Gil's excitement for
"the good ole days".
One night, Gil meets a woman from the 20's named Adriana (Marion Cotillard) who he finds utterly fascinating but is bored in her current time.  Gil and Adriana eventually couple up and are transported to the late 1800's where they encounter artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Gauguin and Edgar Degas who lament that they are not living during the French Renaissance (the golden age) and all feel their current existence is meaningless.
What does this all mean?

For me, this movie was a reminder to live for today, live for now.

If you've ever spent time pining for how things were in high school, you shouldn't--
you had poofy bangs, braces, a curfew and an allowance.

If you liked one song on an album,
you had to buy the whole CD, right?

If you wanted to go to the bathroom during a TV show you were watching, you had to wait until a commercial.

Remember any of this? Look what we have now.

Girls, you now have Zac Posen, GPS and Pink Berry.

Fellas, take solace in iPhones, Tivo, BlueRay and real-time fantasy football stats.

I promise that you are way more awesome now than that awkward high school kid ever dreamed you'd be.

If you want nostalgia, shop consignment.

To quote Billy Joel's "Keeping the Faith"-- "the good ole days weren't always good and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems."

Just keep livin'.

--MRob

thanks so much, rob! i love this. and you.
now go give sweet E a big kiss from me!
and give your wife some money. and alone time. and some new shoes.

kelly fois deux

do you read the glamourai?
kelly framel is a new york blogger, jewelry designer,
stylist, consultant, & model with gorgeous looks
& unique imitable style to boot.

her blog is a daily read of mine, and i find myself constantly inspired by her style and presentation.
small surprises and thoughtful, intentional dressing
(or "costumery" as she so rightly puts it)
abound with every click.

i mean, a girl whose christmas tree looks like this?
we likey.

kelly recently had the lucky opportunity to spend a long weekend at the malibu beach house of one of my fave interior designers (recently turned clothing and jewelry designer as well)...
kelly wearstler.

today's post by the glamourai recaps that weekend
brilliantly.
(what can i say? i'm a sucker for beautiful scenery,
photography, interiors and fashion.
not to mention those gorgeous cinema graphs!)

pop on over and check it out; it just may take your breath away.

rose bowl part 1

prepare yourselves for an image-heavy post.
(heavier than usual!)

one week ago today we attended our first (live) rose bowl parade,
and i took eleventybillion photos.
it was so magical!
we weren't sure what to expect as far as traffic, seating, whether or buy the bleacher seats, etc.
but we live by the seat of our pants around here, so we gave it a go.

there were people eight to ten deep all along the 5 mile route!
it was madness.

i have such love for any military bands/floats in a parade...
or on the street... or anywhere!

aaaaaaand now i need a mini horse. need!

we had the lucky fortune to be asked to sit in the front row, and let me tell you, seeing the gorgeous floral magic up close is incredible!

american soldier, actor, & inspiration j.r. martinez was
this year's grand marshall.

the dancers on this float were disney-larious.

the rose court!
they were working their elbow-wrist action...
and all i could think was
remember when donna was on rose court?!
no?
liar.
anyway...
apparently its not a party without
medieval times!
they are hilarious. and very serious.

one of my favorites. gorgeous.

real smoke & lava came out of this volcano;
so rad!

lord how i do love a man in a kilt.
smoking dragon!
another one of my faves, and official record-holder for the longest float; there was water up there behind the glass, & the dogs were surfing!

we all had such a blast; it was a magical morning!
i'll show you the rest in a separate post.
(yes, there's more...)

side note:
did any of you watch this season opener last night?!
yeah. i was up til 1am.
it was glorious, and like any good addict, i want more.
like yesterday.
thus i shall be speaking in olde english
for the remainder of the day.
